En la vertiente norte de Pico Blanco, la montaña más alta de los Cerros de Escazú, y con amplias vistas a todo el Valle Central, se dispone un conjunto de 23 casas, conformando dos grupos, el primero de 17 casas en hilera y el segundo de 6 casas aisladas.
El primer conjunto se proyecta consiguiendo una uniformidad en el ritmo, repetición, donde la secuencia de diversas cubiertas produce la vibración de una nueva topografía que conforma el paisaje cercano de las casas aisladas que se disponen en la parte superior de la parcela.
Las casas en hilera se articulan a través de un patio vertical que establece una relación de tierra-cielo que aporta el carácter introspectivo e íntimo necesario; siendo este patio la primera pieza en relación con el exterior, de una secuencia que acaba con la sala principal que se proyecta hacia las vistas del Valle, enmarcándolas en obertura sin obstrucciones.
Las casas individuales se apoderan de las vistas del Valle con un gesto tensado donde toda la fachada a norte se libera de cualquier elemento, teniendo como marco y zócalo el juego de cubiertas vegetadas que configuran la nueva topografía que caracteriza este proyecto.
Proteger el talúd y los árboles del extremo de la urbanización, como únicos elementos naturales aún existentes, y poder disfrutar de sus presencia, de sus sombras, de sus pájaros, han sido los objetivos en el diseño de esta Casa Club.
La Casa Club como lugar de encuentro y oasis, dentro de un conjunto denso de casas, nos permite un momento de respiro en el que la atmósfera principal viene determinada por la luz natural filtrada por los árboles.
La madera de pino teñida se instala de forma vertical a modo de discurso dialogante con el mundo vegetal que tiene enfrente. La cubierta se abre para permitir el paso de la luz del sol y enfatizar los reflejos del cielo en el agua.
En este extemo de la urbanización los elementos naturales son los protagonistas.

Protecting the vegetated slope and trees at the rear of the development, being the only natural elements still existing, and being able to enjoy its presence, its shadows, its birds, have been the objectives in the design of this Club House.
The Club House as a meeting place and oasis, within a dense set of houses, allows us a moment of respite in which the main atmosphere is determined by the natural light filtered by the trees.
The stained pine wood is installed vertically as a dialogue with the plant world in front of it. The roof opens to allow sunlight to pass through and emphasize the reflections of the sky in the water.
At this end of the development, the natural elements are the protagonists.

To give continuity to the landscape, recomposing its topography and vegetation, establishing a dialogue in texture and color, thus appearing as a timeless element that delimits and frames, in a tense horizontal gesture, with the valley at its feet. This is how a group is born, a family of 6 houses that, forming a cohesive group, become independent in their staggered arrangement and in their individual gaze on the surrounding landscape.
6 houses with independent access from Calle Lajas, a continuous axis from east to west which turns into Avenida 3, ending in downtown Santa Ana; a site superimposed on the consolidated urban fabric that gives it a privileged position where the required proximity and privacy are achieved.
Deeply rooted in the ground, they emerge outward in a gesture of lightness, undoing matter to become air, where the interior and exterior merge without apparent limits.
The articulation of the interior program is carried out through an abstract landscape made up of repetition and diffuse reflections. A landscape-hallway flooded with overhead light that connects us vertically with the earth and the sky. A linear landscape reveals to us in a continuous sequence, the spaces that one by one frame the exterior views; open spaces to the porch, the water, the garden and the sky. Spaces with a light, ethereal atmosphere.
The soft and nuanced reflections of light and landscape enrich the marble of the wall embedded in the ground and the floor. The marble; «olimpic striato», solid and elegant that accompanies us in all rooms, providing all interiors with the sobriety and tranquility of the eternal.

En la casa INOUT se establece una relación, sin solución de continuidad, entre el “dentro” y el “fuera”. Una sucesión de capas entre lo abierto y lo intermedio. Se desdibujan los límites frontales a través de láminas de vidrio y vegetación, enmarcados por los dos planos horizontales, suelo y techo, donde el lleno y el vacío quedan relacionados en una sucesión de materia, agua, vegetación y cielo. Los límites laterales establecen la única relación lleno-vacío, en una sucesión de sólidos materiales que cierran la mirada transversal.
En los lados, límites con los vecinos, se disponen todos los dormitorios, dejando el espacio intermedio entre volúmenes para la ubicación de los usos más sociales: cocina-comedor, sala, piscina, porche y barbacoa.
Los árboles existentes atraviesan sin concesiones lo interpuesto entre ellos.
Una cortina perimetral de cuerda y vegetación puntualiza los límites del elemento edilicio, creando un intersticio de sombra/luz que matiza y cualifica un espacio entre.
Un solo material, madera de melina, viste el dentro y el fuera. El aparejo varia: en el exterior toma relieve, y en el interior se suaviza.
La mesa de la cocina y la propia cocina conforman una planta esculturizada que preside la zona social. Su negro brillo, granito negro absoluto, desmaterializa a través de sus reflejos la contundencia formal del gesto.
Esta casa responde a las características ya existentes del paisaje y revela nuevas dimensiones de la topografía de lugar. En su formalización y materialidad intensifica la experiencia de la luz, la sombra, la tierra, el agua y el aire. Se presenta clara en su forma global y fluida en su articulación del espacio

INOUT house establishes an uninterrupted ¨inside-outside¨ relationship; a sequence of layers between the open and the intermediary. Frontal boundaries are blurred by sheets of glass and vegetation, framed by two horizontal planes, floor and ceiling, where the full and the void are related via a series of matter, water, vegetation and sky. Lateral boundaries establish the ¨full-void¨ relationship via a series of solid materials that close transversal views. All bedrooms are arranged along the peripheries bordering the neighbors, leaving an intermediate space between volumes for social uses: kitchen-dining, living room, swimming pool, porch and barbecue.
Existing trees remain, uncompromisingly piercing the spaces they occupy. A perimeter curtain of rope and vegetation delineates the limits of the building element, creating a gap of shadow / light that qualifies a space between. A single material, Melina wood, dresses the inside and the outside. The apparatus varies: the outside is expressed as a relief while the inside is softened.
The kitchen table and the kitchen itself shapes a sculptural floor that presides over the social zone. The black gloss of the Absolute Black granite dematerializes, through its reflections, the gesture of formal forcefulness. This house responds to the existing features of the landscape and reveals new dimensions of the topography of place. In its formalization and materiality, the experience of light, shadow, earth, water and air is intensified. The general form is readily readable and fluid in its articulation of space.

En un lugar valdío sin cualidades ni calidades urbanísticas de una zona suburbana, se proyecta un conjunto de 30 casas que van a establecer su relación con el horizonte más lejano, montañas, y con la orientación solar y con lo vientos dominantes.
La traza de la calle principal se curva para enfatizar, en el acceso al conjunto edificado, la relación de éste con su fondo natural: la cadena montaña volcánica en el lado norte.
En esta calle una secuencia de árboles de nueva plantanción enfrente de una disposición orgánica de las casas produce una vibración y cambio constante en sus luces y sombras.
El interior y exterior de las viviendas se entrelazan a través de una fragmentación ordenada por un muro quebrado de piedra natural, travertino, que nos recoge, protege y evoca lo ancestral del hecho de habitar.
Alrededor del patio abierto que enmarca orgánicamente el cielo y las cumbres de los volcanes Barba y Poas, así como los Altos de San Rafael, se organizan en un «todo exterior» los elementos que configuran estas viviendas de componente horizontal, pegadas al suelo y con mirada al cielo.
In a valuable place without urban qualities of a suburban area, a set of 30 houses is projected that will establish its relationship with the farthest horizon, mountains, and with the solar orientation and the prevailing winds.
The main street curves to emphasize its relationship with its natural background: the volcanic mountain chain on the north side. In this street, a sequence of newly planted trees in front of an organic arrangement of the houses produces a vibration and constant change in their light and shadows.
The interior and exterior of the houses are intertwined through a fragmentation ordered by a delicately angled natural stone wall, travertine, which embraces, protects and evokes the ancestral act of living.
Around the open patio that organically frames the sky, the peaks of Barba and Poas volcanoes, as well as the Altos de San Rafael, are organized the spaces that configure these homes, grounded to the earth with skyward views.

200 Árboles de diferentes tipos y una suave pendiente caracterizan a este lugar, donde se construyen 20 casas. Las 20 casas se disponen en una retícula ortogonal y aparentemente rígida que va dibujando patios que abrazan y enmarcan todos los árboles existentes. Se ponen así en valor los elementos naturales que conforman la atmósfera de todo el sitio.
Las casas de una sola planta se elevan ligeramente de la rasante del suelo para permitir el paso de la raíces y se quedan, siempre, por debajo de la ramas principales, ocupando así el espacio libre que deja el bosque. Se vive entre árboles.
Todas las casas establecen una relación fluida con el exterior, tanto en su componente horizontal como vertical.
En el recorrido interior, la luz natural tamizada por las ramas nos llega a través de patios interiores que nos confieren privacidad y exterior en un solo gesto. Las casas se abren en toda su dimensión al jardín posterior, tanto en anchura como en altura, consiguiendo así que mangos y guanacastes formen parte de la atmósfera interior.
La altura interior de los espacios principales: sala-cocina, dormitorio principal y oficina; enfatizan la sensación de abertura y monumentalidad, trasmitiéndonos unas sensaciones que se alejan de lo doméstico.
Sombra fresca bajo los árboles, el murmullo de los pájaros y la caricia suave de la brisa. Es lo natural. No hay más, y todo se encuentra ahí. Descubrir lo existente para disfrutarlo tal cual es. Formar parte del entorno inmediato sumando, para potenciar y sentir lo natural.
No hay más. Todo está ahí.

In BOSQUES 20 houses, 200 trees of different varieties and a gentle slope characterize this place where 20 houses are built. The houses are arranged in an orthogonal grid which outlines patios that embrace and frame all the existing trees. Thus, placing value on the natural elements that make up the atmosphere of the entire site.
The single-story houses float slightly above the ground to allow the roots to pass freely beneath and while roof lines remain below the main branches; the homes thus, occupying the free space left by the forest. One lives among trees.
All houses in BOSQUES 20 houses, establish a fluid relationship with the outside, both its horizontal and vertical component.
On the interior route, natural light filtered by the branches reaches us through interior patios that give us both privacy and the exterior in a single gesture. The houses open in all their dimensions to the rear garden, both in width and height, thus making mangoes and Guanacastes part of the interior atmosphere.
The interior height of the main spaces: living room-kitchen, master bedroom and office, emphasize the sensation of openness and monumentality, transmitting sensations that are far from domestic.
Cool shade under the trees, the chirping of birds and the gentle caress of the breeze. It is natural; there is no more, and everything is there. Discover what exists to enjoy it as it is. Be part of the immediate environment, to enhance and feel the natural. There’s no more. Everything is there.

Altamira House, establece un relación directa y cosida con la topografía y con la vegetación existente. En el curso de adentrarnos y descender por su interior, diversos patios con agua y vegetación van articulando el recorrido, hasta llegar a la zona principal, donde sin solución de continuidad pasamos al gran porche.
Cada habitación tiene su propio espacio exterior y jardín, protegido e íntimo, pero al mismo tiempo, un espacio exterior, que liga todo el recorrido exterior a través de un mismo paisaje.
La piscina actúa como bisagra entre lo construido y el jardín. El jardín está protegido a las vistas exteriores y a las vistas del este, abriéndose hacia las vistas de todo el valle del río Virilla, y más allá, el Tárcoles y el golfo de Nicoya.
Los materiales de paredes, suelos y techos contribuyen a la creación de una atmósfera singular, envolviendo a sus habitantes y haciéndoles vivir una experiencia única.

We conceive architecture as a language across which properties can express themselves such as: harmony, creativity, happiness, beauty, poetry, complexity, magic, provocation and culture.
In our architecture we put emphasis on the quality of the experience of living; we look for pleasure in its deepest forms, a journey through the landscape where one finds the place of thought, the refuge of the mind and the satisfaction by means of sensory and ideal declarations.
We propose a journey, without scarcely moving, where space folds and multiplies. A trip across a bioclimatic architecture which looks to the immediate environment, with multiple possibilities. A trip across matter and its absence. A trip across light, and its variations. A trip across the sounds, and of the silence.
This house establishes an intimate, woven and direct relationship with the topography and with the existing vegetation. In a descending promenade the diverse spaces are articulated between water courtyards and vegetation, until one approaches the great room, which in only one gesture turns into a great porch, with seamless continuity between the interior and the exterior.
Every bedroom, arranged step by step, has its own exterior private space and garden, protected and intimate, and at the same time links to a common open pathway through the landscape.
The swimming pool acts as hinge between the built space and the garden. The garden is protected from inward external views and the views of the west, with a visual horizon that allows us to appreciate the whole valley of the river Virilla, and beyond, the Tárcoles, up to the Nicoya gulf.
The materials of wall, floor and ceiling will be the elements that will help to create a singular interior atmosphere, enveloping its inhabitants and to make them participants of a unique living experience.
